Event background

The original name of the Society was The Scandinavian Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. SSAC was formed in 1983, originally to address issues in Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. The objectives of the society were changed in 2001 to “the Society shall facilitate the acquisition and distribution of knowledge in the fields of infectious diseases and clinical microbiology”. In 2011, the Society changes its name to “The Nordic Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases” (NSCMID) to fully correspond to the objectives.

The congress will be held at Lappia Hall, Rovaniemi, Finland. Lappia Hall is located in the city centre within walking distance from most of the local congress hotels (Hallituskatu 11).

Rovaniemi also known as the Gate of Lapland is the vibrant capital of northern Finland.. With its land area of 8016 km2 it stands out as the most extensive town in Europe. Rovaniemi,.This modern university city with a population of over 60,000 offers a unique combination of urban services and the beautiful natural environment of Lapland. Four different seasons inspire local life, and set the rhythm for sports and other activities.

The Meeting language is English.

How to get there

Rovaniemi is easily reached by air and train. It is served with frequent domestic and international flights. The airlines Finnair and Norwegian provide several departures a day from/to Helsinki; flight time one hour and twenty minutes.

The train journey from Helsinki to Rovaniemi takes about 10 hours and offers a good opportunity to see more of Finland. We also recommend a night train – arriving at Rovaniemi in the morning after resting well in a cosy sleeping car.

All major car rentals have an office in Rovaniemi serving those interested in travelling around the surrounding areas and Lapland by themselves.

Please check flights, trains and timetables in Useful links below.
